We decided to take an overnight trip up to Bend to see if we could find some snow. On the way we passed through Detroit. The reservoir was almost empty. Just a fast-moving stream running through it. We've never been up there in the winter, so I guess this is normal. But it sure was weird. This is the boat dock area.
This is a little farther up the hill.
We did find a little snow at the Santiam Pass, but the road was clear. As usual, the mountains surrounding Sisters and Bend had snow and were gorgeous.
We got to Bend at lunch time and had an interesting and yummy meal at a little restaurant called Barrio. After lunch we walked around downtown and out into the surrounding neighborhood. In the evening we had dinner at the Pine Tavern with some new friends we had met on the train in September. After a very enjoyable dinner, we went to the Old St. Francis School hotel for the night.
The next morning after breakfast at the hotel we took a short walk along the Deschutes River. It was chilly but mostly sunny. I thought these clouds looked like UFOs.
We left Bend around 10:30 and by the time we arrived home it was raining.
