After two cloudy days at sea, with lots of rocking and rolling, we arrived in Alesund. It was another beautiful sunny day, in the low 60s. We were docked right downtown, so we just walked off the ship and into a lovely small city. Most of the city burned to the ground in 1904 and was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style. The streets are cobblestone and everything is very clean.
After walking around and seeing all the beautiful buildings, we walked up (418 steps!) to the top of Mr. Alska for a spectacular view of the city. It was a tough climb but well worth the effort.
After lunch back on the ship we went out again for a walk along the waterfront, where we found a few interesting birds. We sailed at 4:00 to much whistle blowing and the accompaniment of a spraying fire boat.
