Barcelona, Spain - November 5, 2017

We arrived at 10:00 in Barcelona.  There were already four other cruise ships here, so the city was really crowded.  But it was another beautiful day so we didn't really mind.  We set out on a walk along Las Ramblas, the long main street with lots of shops and restaurants.  The one thing on our agenda for today, also on my list of things I really wanted to do, was to see the sardana, the Catalan folk dance that the locals do in front of the cathedral of Barcelona at noon every Sunday.  It's a slow circle dance done to the accompaniment of small band.  Everyone puts their packs and bags in the center as a sign of trust and community.  Not only did we see it, I participated!  A lovely elderly lady next to me led me through it, in Spanish, of course.  Needless to say, I was thrilled.  We'd been told that Barcelona is the worst European city for pickpockets, but we never witnessed any problems.  Also, we had heard that there would be protesters regarding Catalan independence, but we saw none of that either.  We had lunch at a tapas restaurant, including a glass of local wine.  We were back on the ship in time for tea.

Miles walked: 8.5
