Lisbon, Portugal - November 1, 2017

Our main goal today was a visit to the Castelo da Sao Jorge.  Because there were five (!) other cruise ships expected, we figured we'd better get out early.  After walking to the castle (with the help of two elevators) we found almost no other tourists there.  The castle was built by the Moors in the 11th century as a fortress but later became the royal palace.  It sits on the highest point in Lisbon and has fantastic views in all directions.  By the time we exited the castle grounds, the line to get in was a block long.  Three cheers for early risers!  The whole city was crawling with tourists, over 30,000 of us.  We decided we'd had enough and went back on board the ship in time for lunch.

Miles walked: 7.8
