Gibraltar, British Overseas Territory - November 25, 2017

After a day at sea we arrived in Gibraltar at noon.  It was a pretty impressive sight from the ship.  We set out early in the afternoon to avoid the crowds.  Our plan was to walk through town to the cable car and ride it to the top, then walk back down.  It seemed like a doable plan.  There isn't much of interest in the city.  It was clean but rather boring.  There's a bit of history with the old walls and bastions, but that was about it.  One of the big attractions is the Barbary apes who live on the rocks above the city.  Also, there are tunnels that were used for shelter during World War II.  When we got to the cable car terminal we discovered that there was a long wait, reportedly one and a half hours.  So we scrapped that plan and instead walked into a nearby botanical garden.  It was very nice, and there were lots of birds to look at.  We were even able to see a couple of monkeys up on the cliffs.  After quite a bit of time in the garden, and finding one life bird, we walked back to the ship, in time for a late tea.

Miles walked: 6.5
