We arrived to a chilly but sunny morning. We took the port shuttle into town and found
a map at the tourism office. Our first
stop was at the University of Cagliari
botanical garden. It was deserted and
very peaceful. Then we continued up hill
to the ancient Roman amphitheater dating back to the first century AD. It's carved out of a limestone cliff right in
the middle of the city. We then
continued up into the Castello area, the original medieval walled city. We found a wonderful tiny cafe for
lunch. As we were finishing eating on
the terrace one of the waitresses came out and asked David, in Italian, if
he wanted a haircut. There was a tiny
barber shop in the back of the cafe. We
said sure, why not, so David got a very nice haircut for 20 Euros. Then we set out again down the hill to the
center of town and the shuttle. Since
this was our last Italian port, it was nice to have a lovely clean city to remember. Our dinner on board the ship was a traditional Thanksgiving
feast.
